People can have lots of different writing styles. Orson Scott Card (Enders Game) has a very formal and dry kind of writing style, which can attract a certain amount of different people. Different people may unconsciously like a certain writing style and not even know it, simply because that particular writing style appeals to their imagination, or brings them into the story better.
I think my favorite style of writing has to be Brandon Sanderson, who has this kind of rich, purple kind of writing. You will hear a lot of how much I admire Brandon Sanderson, but it may be because I like his writing style.
Rich writing styles allow a reader to fully understand the world, so much so in fact, that the reader knows the same exact information of the world than the character in the book. It’s very difficult to accomplish this without long lines of exposition, however, and Brandon Sanderson is very talented when it comes to this kind of thing.
Figuring out what writing style you are is very difficult. If you’ve had someone read and comment on your novel, you will know that readers can see things that the writer is blind to. It’s difficult to get immersed in a story if you were the one who wrote it.
So go out there and try to find your favorite writing style! And who knows, you may even figure out what your writing style is!
Good luck with your writing adventure! See ya!
